Die Idee wurde 1915 in Detroit, USA, geboren. Der Name Kiwanis ist indianischen Ursprungs und bedeutet etwa soviel wie: wir finden Freude daran, aktiv zu sein. Derzeit gibt es in \u00fcber 70 L\u00e4ndern nahezu 16.000 Clubs mit mehr als 600.000 m\u00e4nnlichen und weiblichen Mitgliedern aller Altersgruppen. Das Ziel von Kiwanis-Aktionen ist es \u00fcberall da zu helfen, wo Staat und gro\u00dfe Wohlt\u00e4tigkeits-Organisationen \u00fcberfordert sind.
